Happy 88th Birthday to Queen Elizabeth II! Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of the young queen wearing the insignia of the "Order of Australia," designed by Frank D. Manley with the collaboration of Australian artist Ralph Malcolm Warner (1902-1966), engraved by Frank D. Manley, printed by W.C.G. McCracken, and issued by Australia on February 2, 1954 as one of a set of three stamps commemorating the Royal Visit of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, Scott No. 268. - nethryk PS I am currently reading a fascinating biography of King Edward VII, the queen's oft-disparaged great-grandfather, entitled The Heir Apparent: A Life of Edward VII, The Playboy Prince (2013), by Jane Ridley. |
