Not a stamp per se, but Sir Winston appears in postmark form along with FDR and Stalin on this Columbian issue overprinting some guava pickers as near as I can make out. |

re the symbols on the Turks & Caicos minisheet and the Yemen stamp - they represent 3 of his hobbies: "Not one to just sit around indoors, another hobby Churchill indulged in was, oddly enough, bricklaying. Having bought his family home (Chartwell) in 1922, he spent the next two years totally rebuilding and expanding it, using his own two hands to construct several of the new buildings and the garden wall. He was so accomplished as a bricklayer, he got an apprentice card in the Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers. He also worked hard at landscaping, including planting huge gardens and entire orchards." http://whowaswinstonchurchill.com/w...hobbies/463/ |

American astronaut Scott Kelly posted a Churchill tweet yesterday But many in social media started to flame him for his post above; so he followed with this post... We live in very different times. Don |

Social media responses enable an instant rejoinder. But it would be wrong to suggest that Churchill wasn't the subject of many criticisms during his political life - for the shotting of Welsh coal-miners, the Dardanelles disaster, his role in Irish partition, his performance as Chancellor of the Exchequer etc. The commemorative stamps inevitably focus on one aspect of a long life. |
