Hello all

I just got a postcard from Belarus that has two stamps, one has a large "M" on it, and the other is this deer or elk. There are no numbers printed on it, so I was wondering if the text is important? There is tagging, with a sort-of star logo in the middle, and text on top and bottom (bottom says BELARUS). I couldn't get a good photo showing the tagging...

I'm sure this is a common stamp, but the last of numbers or letters makes me curious...

JD

The top word is "fauna". Maybe it is a label from a sheet or booklet of stamps?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the image shown is the central label from this 1997 Wildlife issue, which seems to be more correctly described as a "label" rather than a stamp, as the others from the sheet have a clear letter designating a recognized denomination and animal description:

Forest dormice (Dryomys nitedula)
Red fox (Vulpes vulpes)
European polecat (Mustela putorius)

Hmmm... I wonder if the other stamp, marked with an "M", paid the international postcard rate, and the sender added the label for interest?

Here's the "alphabetical" face value rate information:

Quote:
Alphabetic face values of the stamps

"A" (BYR 500) is equal to the tariff of a letter up to 20 gram within Belarus.

"B" (BYR 500) is equal to the tariff of a postcard within Belarus.

"N" (BYR 1600) is equal to the surface tariff of a postcard abroad.

"M" (BYR 2300) is equal to the air-mail tariff of a postcard abroad.

"H" (BYR 3300) is equal to the surface tariff of a letter up to 20 gram abroad.

"P" (BYR 5100) is equal to the air-mail tariff of a letter up to 20 gram abroad.

"C" (BYR 5100) = "P".

The following link provides the English version of the philatelic website for that country. I find it particularly interesting that the label shown in this initial post is termed a "coupon" according to their website:

I wonder if the tagging on my label is on all stamps on that sheet?
