I need advice. When purchasing stamps anymore, I try to get items which are in good condition. I consider centering, gum if mint, hinge marks etc. I have a pretty tight budget so want to get more bang for the buck, like everyone, I'm sure. Why spend hard earned cash when you'll just have to go and replace an item later?
I've spotted a classic US stamp on ebay, an issue I really want. The price is right and the stamp looks great from the front, apart from a couple of slightly pulled perfs. The description mentions other 'small faults'. Since there are a number of days left in the auction, I messaged the seller regarding these faults.
He very nicely responded that there was a small thin where a hinge was, and a repaired tear at the bottom. There were no images of the back on the listing.
So, how would you all approach this? I really want this issue. This copy is less than normally priced (no doubt due to condition) and looks great from the front. But it's still not cheap, though within my budget.
I know stamps I've shown here haven't always been perfect, the criteria is fluid. But again I'm not sure I'd want to spend only to feel the need to replace it later.
Oh the dilemma!
Advice?
