China? I.d. Help Please

I was wondering if I could get some help with these pieces,I dont collect any aisian countries so these are beyond me ,thanks

In case you are using the entire scanning glass as your image area, and cropping away most of that unused space -- don't. Make the scanning area about 2 x 4 inches, and your results will improve greatly.

The SMALLER the scanning area, the better. For a single stamp, I use 2 x 2 inches.

Yes, larger scans would help enormously.

In the meantime, they remind me of the booksellers' stamps stuck in the backs of Japanese books. No real value, although there are a few collectors of them.

Sorry for the delay ,but heres what I know on this one,It has perf 11and measures 23 mm across the face of the stamp and26mm tall.know I am calling the face of the stamp as printed border to printed border

This one here I dont know what kind of perf this is-- if it is at all the face measures 24x24 mm it is gummed and does hae remnants of an old hinge,

Those are beautiful stampdad! I'm certainly no expert in these, but my guess would be that these are private labels. There's no denomination and in the case of the second piece shown, no text. The rubber stamps, if I can call them that, look like Chinese Seal Carvings or name stamps. This leads me to believe they were for private use, perhaps on letters or as book plates (but that may be too western an idea).
I look forward to seeing the third up close and personal.

The last one I have is 43mm long and 27mm tallas far as perf I measured them at 3.5 mm apart the back does have gum remnants and an old hinge,Thanks for any help I recieve and Im sorry if Im NEW and SLOW.thanks again Kevin

These are book publisher seals from older Japanese books.

The first is from Kaizosha, a publisher active from around WWI to the 1960s. I can't make out any of the red seal, but it probably belonged to one of the publisher's staff.

The second has no name on it all, and only the first two characters of the seal are legible. They read 'Japan(ese)', which doesn't get us much further.

On the third, the first (right-hand) character of the name of the last publisher is also illegible: a large scan of the character might help. The rest reads '...-kura Shobo' or '[something]-kura Bookshop'. The red seal is a personal seal of someone called Matsuda. Again, that doesn't help. There are millions of Matsudas in Japan, I'm afraid.

I'm not sure when the practice of attaching these seals to books ended: probably some time around the 1960s

Sorry: I can make out a few details of the character, but not enough to identify it. If you scan just the right-hand character (or as close to just the character as you can) at maximum resolution, it might be possible to make it out.

Brucego, first of all welcome to SCF.

I'm sorry to have to contradict your first post here, but you're wrong. These are Japanese book seals. They turn up regularly in collections of stamps from Asia, but they're certianly not Chinese, nor are they bogus.

If you have some examples yourself, please post them here. I may be able to identify the publisher/bookshop involved.
