Who Buys & What Does One Do With So Many Duplicates?

Hi Everyone,
I was shopping around ebay and came across this huge lot of duplicates all bundled up and marked by Scott number.

My question is.... what does one do with all these stamps? Who usually buys them?

Who would buy such stamps? Dealers for creating packets of US material. There may even be crafters who would desire certain issues for paper crafts, decoupage, and any number of other creative crafts that require a theme involving a stamp (or series of stamps).

The value is not in the individual stamp but in the sheer volume of stamps available. After seeing an example such as this, it is small wonder that 20th century commemorative stamps command little more than minimum catalog value, and oftentimes only a fraction of that figure.

If I could get them for a song (but, alas, I don't sing very well), I would purchase them and donate them to the wounded veteran's stamp club. They can bring enjoyment to our wounded.
Sue, do you happen to have the ebay site where this is listed?

In addition to the very good responses already provided . . . cancel collectors buy lots like this to search for specific/SON/funny/rare town/etc cancels on the stamps.

Though to be fair, most of those stamps in the image provided have seen the killer end of common machine cancels and are best sold for packets.

What a great find, Sue.

As an educator, that's the kind of stamp lot I like. I can design an activity around a certain subject or topic and not have to hunt for the stamps.

One I did at the beginning of the year with the junior stamp club was on the American Civil War stamps. I did a little write up about each stamp and made a mini-Civil War album that the kids could put in their stamp binders. They also each received a packet of stamps. It would have saved me tons of time if I could have just pulled out bundles like the ones in this ebay auction!

If you are going to look for printing varieties
you will need a large number of stamps.

Dealers will certainly buy such huge lots of stamps. Normal collector would not to do so. But look at the bid price, it is only 10$ now, but it will increase more.The auction style is what important, a business tactic. Also the picture attached would make any collector go for it. Be patient, dont rush is the rule in purchasing items from online sales.

The thing that astonishes me is the immense amount of LABOR required to get to this point. WHO is willing to work for 10 cents per hour???

By the way, the trade name for this sort of thing is BUNDLEWARE, as opposed to kiloware, generally sold by weight.

Who in the world, took the time to sort and gather, group, look up Scott numbers, wrap them and all!

I wonder where people get these "bundleware" from?
I mean... with all that work to get it the way you see in the photos, why would someone sell them?

I think Alan touched on something that has been largely ignored. Varieties galore! Although I don't do it myself (and I never want to), I would imagine that this is the easiest/cheapest way to find errors, freaks, & oddities. More power to the person who can sort through this pile!

An old-timer once told me that church groups made up these bundles and sold them to dealers and stamp companies. He said they were done in bundles of 100.

I guess my next question would be... where in the world does the church get the stamps, and SO many of them that they can actually match up more than 100 of each?

Hey, I was wondering, errors, freaks, & oddities.... what are they? I understand "errors" but what is a FREAK stamp? And curious what an oddity stamp would look like?

I think it would be interesting to do find out where the bundleware was bought from and from there, where that previous owner got them and so on and so on, it's like those stamp bundles have their own history!
