Anyone direct me to reference material, book or online, for Canadian/British Field Post cancels from First and Second WW?
I've got a couple of pieces and it's an area that's starting to interest me. Be nice to know what I'm looking at.
Here are a couple of examples.

Much appreciated.

There are a few references mentioned in the thread that Stampgal started awhile ago.

Hi jamesw

According to the reference books I have, your cancellation FPO #34 is is a British type that was also used extensively by Canadian and other Commonwealth forces as well. it was Proofed in 1941 and it would appear that your FPO #34 is fairly early in usage (?)

It was used right up to the end of the 2nd WW.

Your FPO #10 from WW I, if sent to a Canadian address, would indicate it was most likely used by personnel of the Canadian 10th Brigade. The books I have list data for #10P and #10X but I cannot find info for a simple #10

Hope this helps

FPO 34 was allocated to the Canadian Army Postal Service in 1941, and was used in the UK, Sicily and Italy until 12 February 1945.

Many thanks for the responses. The FPO#10 was actually sent from France to Ireland, so I'd assume it's British Army.
Are these reference books readily available? It would be handy to have something in the library if I'm going to continue to pursue this.

The reference material I have are the following:

Canadian Military Post Offices To 1993 by W.J. Bailey & E.R. Toop (2nd Ed.)

The Canadian Military Posts / Volume 1 - Colonial Period To 1919 by W.J. Bailaey & E.R. Toop

The Royal Canadian Naval Postal History 1939 - 1945 by Maurice F. Hampson

The Major E.R. Toop Collection of Canadian Military Postal History - Volume 1 to the end of the Second World War published by BNAPS

Canadian Military Postal Markings (2 Volume set) by W.J. Bailey & E.R. Toop

The Wartime Mails & Stamps - Canada, 1939 - 46 by H.E. Guertin

The last one by Guertine is long out of print but might be procured from reputable philatelic book dealers. As far as I know, most of the above other titles should be available.

You might want to Ian Kimmerly or the BNAPS books for sale at http://www.iankimmerly.com/books/ and the BNAPS website at http://www.bnaps.org/index.htm .
