Sorry Vyn
I can't be of much more help to you. I've gotten to the individual images on photobucket and can't zoom in anymore. The areas that have been altered are teeny tiny and you need be able to zoom right in.
I've also only got a 2003 Scott's for China, so I can't assist you on value. If you have a Scott's you can look at your stamps in person with a loupe and compare to the reprint distinctions that are footnoted. Goodluck.

Oh one more thing, Brucego: the above scans of the martyrs issue stamps are three different stamps, I assumed by your reply you may have missed that, the surcharge is different for each one.

My thinking is that the middle of the three stamps above may be a 698 or a 701/702/703a any opinions?

I don't have Scott, but in the Chan Stamp Catalogue of China, the middle stamp is either #954 if it doesn't have a watermark, or #955 if it does. Chan values #954 at around 10p and #955 at around £60
