Those of you who design your own stamp pages, do you have any borders for the pages that you use that you might be willing to share with the community?

Very nice! Do you have a high res or vector version of that image?

Sorry, I don't have a hi res image. To tell you the truth, the border was taken from a flyer recently received from Mystic Stamp Company and I simply scanned it and deleted the advertising that was within the border and came up with an album page border for my own collection.

Hi

Be careful guys on using the border from Mystic. It
is probably copyrighted and if used in public might cause problems.

Yeah, that's a good point. I have never heard of Mystic being very litigious, but better safe than sorry.

It all depends on what you plan to do with the borders. For your own personal use you should be fine. If, on the other hand, you plan to make items to sell as a profit-making venture, then their legal team may take notice.

Frankly, I'm not even convinced the border shown has any such copyright from Mystic or anyone else. Most word processing software have border lines and border corners like this readily available for free use, and I think this would be a similar situation.

Besides, you can look at copyright in many different ways. For example, the USPS copyrights their stamps, but it doesn't forbid collectors from using their images in forums such as this. The USPS also copyrights their Postal Bulletin publication, but gives away their rights to it for "personal use". The same thing can be said about virtually any image or logo or news article or blog that you can obtain electronically. As long as credit is given where credit is due and there is no profit being gained in the process, the risk of getting prosecuted for it is quite low.

Of course, anyone can attempt to prosecute anyone for copyright infringement, but the reality is that most corporations will "choose their battles" as they wouldn't want to pay their legal people far more than the nickels and dimes they'd ever get back by suing a consumer, not to mention all of the negative publicity it would cause. They would be more likely to selectively prosecute those profit-making schemes where they stand to recover a monetary sum or where their copyright may be placed in jeopardy because of unacceptable use.

Apastuszak, I have a number of fancy corners and other vector graphics to share. What's the best way to do this?

Most classic style borders can be made up from scans of old printer's borders, rules and decorations. These can usually be found in old books or catalogues on these things. Most will be long out of copyright, unless of course they are new designs made in the old manner. Be careful of over-embellishment though, too much 'design' can overpower the stamps.

I'll share them publicly. They are vector .eps, .ai, or .pdf files. I'll upload them to my server and link to them. Here's what they look like.

What program do you use for handling eps files?
I found Inkscape, but perhaps you know better alternatives.
