Effective immediately you must be a site supporter to start a topic in any of the Buy / Sell/ Trade forums, in addition to have 50 posts and 14 days. It is not required to be a supporter to respond to topics.

Awesome!

Damn good idea for many reasons.
People shouldn't be allowed to make money off the forums without supporting it.

Just an FYI, I was *this close* to shutting the entire section down and one of our members talked me into trying this first. I will not mention any names but if that member wants to come forward that's okie dokie with me.

Admin... Bobby??

I think it is a great idea and wondered why it had never been done.
I think it's only fair..

I'm glad you left it up.

I jumped at the opportunity to support a community I enjoy being a part of. Added my membership as soon as I seen the post!

I paid for my membership so fast I didn't follow the instructions,

[Important Note: When making your donation or setting up your subscription, be sure to click the "add special instructions" link and let us know your user name. If you don't see the link use this form to send us a note.]

I have to say it saddens me somewhat. I've been underemployed for over two years, and often can't afford to funnel funds to the forum, though I have happily in the past, and hope to again in the future.
That said, I do think it's fair. You folks do a great job, and I'm sure it's costly, and at times frustrating for you. Guess I'll be peddling my extras on flea-bay for a while. C'est la vie.
But one question. Can non supporters still respond to BST postings?
Thanks

James the new rules are I believe that to post a auction or a sell, you have to be a supporter but if you wish to buy or bid need only be a member with 50 posts.

I can only echo Jamesw's reaction. I see this is an unfortunate turn of events as a result of a series of over-reactions.

I agree with the new rules. I think if you sell you should have to support the site you list on.

It's a great site and I don't want to see it go. I read every day and I have met some really great people. It would be a shame to not have it as one of daily routines.

Before everyone gets upset remember it is still free to use the SCF website. If you are a supporter you have the added perk of using the buy sell trade section, and if your not a supporter you can still buy or bid on items. Remember this is not a sale site its a place to discuss stamps

I am a disabled person who reads SCF like someone would read a newspaper, its great that this is a group of people who share knowledge and help people they dont even know. The new rules are understandable and quite fair,I hope to someday be able to take advantage of the new rules and would be more than happy to become a Supporter in order to do so. Think of this as growing pains and we"ll get through this.

I empathize with Jamesw and others who, like him, have been fully engaged in the forum's philatelic dialogue and occasionally took advantage of the free buy/sell/trade privilege.

However, the previous requirement of 50 posts and 14 days established such a low threshold for entry that someone could join the forum, post for two weeks (oftentimes contributing little of substance), and then begin listing a plethora of items for sale or auction without ever again participating in any of the philatelic discussions.

I'm grateful that Admin has opted to retain the buy/sell/trade section of the forum.

So, why were you thinking of shutting the whole buy/sel/trade thing down? I think this is better than shutting it down, but I am curious what was the straw that broke the camels back?

No offense to the admins, but I find $45/year a tad steep. I'd drop $25/year in a heartbeat.

No matter what, SCF is still the BEST stamp forum on the Internet. This is the one site I check at least 4 times a day, and was the first site I hopped on when I got out of the hospital.
