Image Insert: Linn's Stamp News under their "Kitchen Table Philately"shows this North Korean stamp in their 9/29/08 issue as being worth $7.50! (Is that for real??) It's SC# 3497 but I cannot find it under North Korea --please can you give me current value from Scott's (I cannot find it in my 2004 edition). Thanks so much! Gussyboy1

Hey Gussy
I have that stamp but I mine looks like it is a CTO. I received an entire series in a recent purchase.

I think I have several of that series sent to me by sharksfan. I think there's 25 in that series, right? I like the coloring of the stamps--the chocolate on white--although you can't eat this chocolate! If you look at this Linn's Stamp News article dated 9/29/08 they talk about that series in their "Kitchen Table Philately" article shown here: Gussyboy1 |

Gussy....
Did you notice that your stamp and the one in the Linn's article have exactly the same cancel ???......CTO's as part of the printing process. |

Yes, I see that the cancel doesn't go over the edge of the stamp like normal cancels would. Interesting. So if North Korea cannot sell stamps due to sanctions, where are these coming from-the CTO's--what postal authority would be selling these ? I still cannot figure out where Linn's gets a value of $7.50.

Gussy........
No "Postal Authority" can sell the stamps of another country. But dealers, collectors and speculators can. Since the Korean war sanctions have been impossed and lifted many times. These stamps were issued 13 years ago.......plenty of time to be bought and sold many times. If something gets restricted it will often be stock piled and ready for shipment.
For many years the stamps of Cuba were banned from sales in the US as a part of sanctions, now they are not banned and collectors can easily get them to fill their albums. |

North Korean coins and banknotes also show up regularly. Sometimes I think North Korean diplomats are selling this stuff to dealers for foreign currency. |
