I am new to ebay, what an exciting world! :)

I just purchased what I think is a "buy now" lot,
paid for it immediately, and 5 days later
the vendor emails me and refunds my money,
"lot previously sold"

I received a further email, apologising, and saying the lot
"somehow got back on ebay".

It was only a piddly lot of $8 cinderellas,
but I am seeking direction on how I may give feedback.

I am prepared to accept this was just an irregularity,
the vendor has 100% feedback on 3712 deals.

What direction would the ebay experts here suggest?
Positive feedback with lowered stars?
Neutral feedback? what do you suggest?

Thanks for your input.

Rod I not to sure but if the sale was void by the sellers and money refunded I think if you leave neg or bad feedback . The seller will ask ebay to have it removed as there was no sell, So maybe the best route to go is leave no sell back.
I might only receive 60% of buyers that leave feed back, its not a requirement but nice to do.

I haven't had exactly this happen to me, but I've returned several lots as not as described, and cancelled the transactions, over the years.

As long as I feel the seller has made a genuine mistake, and displays satisfactory remorse, I don't leave feedback at all. That seems the fairest way to deal with the situation. Of course, if you suspect the seller of mischief, you'd be within your rights to leave neutral or negative feedback, according to how strongly you feel about it.

Thanks boys
sounds perfect,
I didn't realise you could avoid leaving feedback.
I couldn't see any mischief over an $8 lot.

That's a common mistake for sellers who list lots on multiple sites. The lot sells on one site, they let the ebay auction expire, but they forget that they have their listing software set to auto-relist unsold lots. Considering that the seller was upfront about the mistake and remedied the problem immediately, I'd let it go with no feedback.

It is also good to know that ebay is not a perfect science.

Sometimes a sold lot ends up in unsold list and gets relisted that way and it is a horrible feeling when you find out after it has been sold again.

The other big pain in the backside is when listing, much time and care is put into a title description but when you press the to list button it disappears and the previous title description doubles up in its place. This problem is so bad in the description area I now only use a standard repeat description for the same type of listings that is very general indeed. To me to have this area in the listing as useless is just such a big waste.

Other silly things happen too. Like a listing done once appears twice as listed.

Listing on ebay is just so much not a perfect science!

Thanks John,
a few years ago I bought a swag of used Hagners from a lass in Perth,
she was an ebay fanatic, and was moving FDC's sourced from a dealer.

Her lounge room was like a mini post office,
there were boxes upon boxes upon boxes, she used "turbo lister" IIRC

It looked too much like hard work to me.

Having said that, I am agog that jam jar labels,
Ajman and the like, are advertised at $4 each on ebay
If they are selling at that price, I have missed the boat,
I gave swags of those away for free.

depending on the seller, it may be a common tactic.
Just becuase they have 100% doesn't mean all people are happy.

What he should have done is let you know it was re-listed and offer it to you at the original price.

My DVD ordered from ebay, I thought was my first ebay loss
It arrived today (30 days in the mail)
Ordered from North Carolina - It was shipped from Germany

My antihistimine tablets, ordered from Sydney
were shipped from Florida

For old fossils like me, the world is becoming a very peculiar place.

So far ebay 100% supply record no matter where from... pleased

Other places I have ordered from
currently experiencing 3 package loss

ebay is very reliable, but I feel overpriced.
quite a juggle.

I have a perfect 100% Feedback over 2000, and I've been on ebay more than ten years. I can assure you, when there's a hangup like you describe, just omit Feedback -- that avoids LOTS of problems.

And for the most part, nobody cares whether you leave Feedback or not.

Dont always trust what you read with feedback.
I have sold some lots to a buyer a few $20 and a $80, when A buyer makes payment I will leave feedback like " prompt payment great ebayer" the normal positive feedback comments.
The buyer has a 100% feedback score of 500+.
Well a month after the first item was mailed to him he open a dispute saying he never received the item then open another one, I felt something was not right how could a couple of items get lost, I emailed him asking has his address changed from the one on his paypal account, I also asked him that its being mailed overseas and might be tied up in customs. He would not reply.
He happens to be a seller as well so thought it was not normal to ignore messages.

I looked at his feedback as a buyer and all comments was good but maybe the sellers did the same as I did, leaving pos feedback.
I message a good number of the sellers telling them that the buyer says he did not receive the item have you had any trouble with this buyer.
I got many replies stating they had the same problem and had to ban him, seems he does it all the time.
I Have contacted ebay and paypal about it and also so did the other sellers hopefully something will be done.

So I do not leave feedback any more till the customer receives the item, just in case this happens again I can leave him a pos feedback but a very neg comment.
So feedback can be misleading

I have faced similar problem once, the seller told me that he lost/misplaced the item, he gave me a refund and the deal was settled amicably. He gave me a positive feed back,I didn't left any feed back.
But I have lost few purchases recently, it happened only for past one year, one was from turkey (sent as registered post), and two purchases from Germany.
I contacted the seller from Turkey, he told me that he will send me the details of registration but didn't received it. Didn't contacted the German sellers. Even though the ebay purchases are covered by PAY PAL protection, and I may get a refund, I dont want more sellers to write "WE WILL NOT SHIP TO INDIA", I believe that its not the fault of the sellers who have a 100% positive feed back and I am bearing the loss these days, have no other way.

Some countries are doing it so tough that some people would do anything to feed the family etc.

Tough times need tough decisions if you are selling online and delivering by mail overseas.

This one guy That bought from me is a real piece of work. He won a auction a while back that was over $100 on my listing it says sales over $100 must be sent reg post at a extra cost. He asked for the sale to be cancelled as he thought shipping too high, this was after I had shipped other lots he won, it was then I felt a bad feeling in my gut.
All the other sellers have had problems with him At the moment I talking to 8 sellers that say this buyer has open up a case against them.
Hopefully paypal will investigate him.

I not too worried a few hundred not going break me. But enough to make one angry

If anyone wants this buyer user name just let me know, he bids on early English and china and USA

True. But if it was a smaller seller, more likely he didn't like the price it went for, and so claimed it was lost as to not have to go through with it. I had a seller try to cancel the seven auctions I won, where I was the only bidder. I refused to allow it. He then claim he ' misplaced' the stamps. When I threatened to complain to ebay, using his previous emails as evidence, he suddenly found them.
