First, I apologize for the three posts which probably went under US postcards. Still learning how to navigate this site--doesn't seem hard but sometimes DUHHH. Patience please.

Can't find this!

Hand cancelled, March 25, Paid 3--on a one penny demand stamp?, and initials. Seems to be lilac or pale/light lilac. Anchor watermark on back. Jumbo stamp and perf gauge doesn't go small enough.

Any help on ID or value would be really appreciated. Novice here.

Hi FrBobT

The stamp you have scanned is a postal fiscal stamp. They can be found in the Stanley Gibbons concise catalgue under "F" numbers. They are listed in shades of 'reddish lilac'. Yours looks like a #F6 which was valued at 5.00 Pounds used in VF condition (2003 edition of catalogue)

Hope this helps.

I knew I had one of these on a document, so, I scanned it.

This is a Postal Fiscal stamp SG #F7 - reddish lilac / bluish issued in 1857. Your #F6 was also issued in the same year.

Hi Bujutsu,

These are both revenue stamps used as revenues not as postal fiscals.

The SG listings are for the stamps used postally.

Hi Nigel - I agree, they are revenue stamps but I thought that the SG catalogue listed them as Postal Fiscals (?)

Hi Bujutsu,

By "postal fiscal" SG means revenue stamps that were authorised for postal use and are either unused or have been used postally, so for example in my 2009 SG Commonwealth (Part 1) catalogue, the listing for SG F6 has three prices:

1. Unused (mint): £10.00

2. Postally used: £8.50

3. Postally used on cover: £150
