Does anyone know whether G&K Centurion stock sheets are better than Lighthouse Vario?
I have some Vario stock sheets which are coming apart (delaminating) between the black and the clear layers even though they are brand new & have seen no abuse. The all clear sheets don't seem to have any such problems.
So I'm wondering if it's worth the extra trouble & expense to try to find the Centurions? I already have a very good source for the Varios.

Thanks - Tom

The one thing about Varios is that they are delicate like that. I prefer Hagner myself, but they are significantly pricier than Varios. I cannot speak to Centurians though.

Many thanks smauggle,

Wonder if the thicker Vario-plus sheets would be stronger this way?

I started with Stock book though few 16,32 1nd 64 Pages. Having
Large collection of single, pairs, blocks and sheet reading here I started with showgard stock sheets from GreenDragon. Were cheaper than any other
Stock sheets but all the three time got defective specially dented and creased.
AmosAdvantage sells Vario checking with them they guaranteed if defective
return at their cost. Though little higher priced than showgard. Counting
per sheet Vario were less expensive.
I have not tried Hagner. I would say if comparing price if you find good
quality Sheets from reputable company it is worth the cost.
Many dealer buy Seconds from Original company and advertise cheap on internet.
Showgard were sturdy but defective one cost you over all more. After
buying three times I stopped buying showgard.
Over all Hagner is rated high in Philatelic community.

I had had some Vario pages wrinkle when water was introduced to them, although now I am not sure if they were Lighthouse / Vario.

The Lighthouse Vario pages I have now have a brand mark in the lower left corner when the holes are on your left.

I have heard that there are pages out there that are sold as Lighthouse or vario but are a cheaper make so perhaps not truly Vario. Perhaps also, over the years the formulation for the pages was changed.

Do your pages have a cardboard backing or plastic? Will some water wrinkle them? Do they have the branding as shown above?

Mine do not separate at the seams of the clear and black plastic.

Do you have a tropical climate you are dealing with perhaps?

Sorry for the dust on the Vario.

Perhaps it is Not a good idea to test with water. The pages may be cardboard / paper coated with plastic, if that is possible. maybe only test and old sheet that is garbage anyway, if you have any.

Many thanks to all of you for your input!

Yes they have the watermark you mentioned & came in a sealed package marked "Leuchtturm VARIO Made in Germany" so I think they must be genuine. They are all-plastic, but I haven't tried the water-test.

I bought them on-line from "Collectons.com" in Boulder, Colorado. Has anyone dealt with them or know if they are a reputable dealer? I've sent them an email about the problem. We'll see what they say.

Thanks again - Tom

I've had a happy conclusion to my Vario stock sheet problem & I thought others of you with similar problems might like to know about it.

I wrote to CollecTons.com (in Boulder, Colo. - where I got them) about my Vario sheets coming apart. They refused to replace them & referred me to the manufacturer (Lighthouse Publications in Hackensack, NJ.).

Lighthouse said there had been a manufacturing problem with some of the sheets which has now been corrected. They replaced my sheets (Vario 4-S) at no cost, but made it abundantly clear that they were NOT pleased that CollecTons.com had not done so!

I have yet to use the new sheets, so don't know for sure that they are any better.

My conclusions are:
1) CollecTons.com (although there are many good reasons for buying from them, and I'll probably continue to do so) gets a black mark for not standing behind the products they sell.
2) Lighthouse is a reputable company and has earned my loyalty.
3) It might be worth the extra cost to order directly from them.

Happy collecting - Tom
