Whats up with the gum on foreign stamps? The older stamps have a very nasty, slimy, yickie gum. I fell like I'm wiping snot of the back of the gum.

In addition some of that stuff is just hard to get off of the paper making the addition of warm water necessary. The only good news is that my drying book does handle these nasty stamps well. At least I have not had one stick yet.

MK.......

Many older stamps, especially older European colonies used a very thick slimy gluten gum. Soaking, then rubbing gently under warm running water will remove it completely. I think the French Cameroon's 1930's & 40's have the worst gum.
