I have just received this email from John Denune, the Ohio Seals specialist. Quote:
Dear Michael,
God bless Israel , and thanks for your question. This seal was issued by the Norwegian Sailors Charity Fund, Oslo . This society issued 2 designs, very similar, but the other one you do not have pictures 2 ships and is printed in red. Both seals were used from 1904 to 1932. They are listed in the Hartvigsen Illustrated Catalog 1885-1919. I reprinted this old catalog about 20 years ago. It lists primarily Scandinavian fundraising seals. My reprint is $4 + airmail shipping of $2. Because your seal has a coarser perforation, I would say it is from 1932. I have 4 diff in stock, 3 diff shades of the blue lighthouse, and one red with 2 ships. I think all 4 of mine are different from yours. The group of 4 is $16 + $1 airmail shipping. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
Sincerely,
John Denune
He has a great website with some fantastic material at very reasonable prices. You can find it here;
http://www.christmasseals.net/index.htmI also had a reply from a Cinderella Group where I am a member.
This is what I got;
Quote:
It is a relatively common seal done by the Norwegian Seamans fund. It
comes in a total of 4 main denominations and types. These saw use from
the 1920's through the beginning of World War II.
I do not know the meaning of the initials, but the date is the start date
of the organization.
