Hi

Centennial - 6 cts.
I have plate blocks 1-2-3 and 4.
In the first 3 (plates 1, 2 and 3) background in the upper left corner is clear and with smooth lines.
But in plate 4 that area is much more dark and with very sharp lines.

First image : as in plates 1-2-3
Second image : as in plate 4

I think that the die was re-engraved for this plate.
It is true ?

The four plate blocks :

The first 3 blocks are British American Bank Note Die I.

The 4th block is British American Bank Note Die II.

There is a third die for this stamp.
The Canadian Bank Note stamp, is Die Ia, is a mid-range shade between the two British American Bank Note stamps (Die I is lighter and Die II is darker).

Die 1a is the original die. You will find
it on the 6c coil stamp...orange or black
and the perf 12x12 black.

"#460B Perf 10 horizontal BABN Die II-August 1970".
Maybe it`s about time we got the magnifying glass out and
actually LOOKED at the stamps instead of trusting a catalogue.
The stamp on the left is a 12x12 CBN Die Ia. The one in the centre
is a coil. The stamp on the right is a BABN Die II. You be the
judge...is the coil Die Ia or Die II?

Of course it`s Die Ia. CBN printed all the coils. Why would they use
a BABN die?
The catalogue is wrong and it`s been wrong for a long time.

The note from the previous post has made two mistakes in the quote: the coil is # 468B, not 460B, and the Unitrade does not include the printer "BABN" as part of their description.

But, the "Die II" reference is certainly incorrect for the coil stamp. I see that it has been in the Unitrade for many, many years (since the 2000 edition). Perhaps an oversight?

I got the quote right. The original poster edited it.

My 1994 Unitrade doesn`t show a die type.
