Hi guys Look at the shift in the black of this Scott # 246...Unitrade makes NO reference of shifting...Does anyone else have this stamp and does your stamp have the same shifting...??
Hello all The 2 cent stamp of the same series exhibits a similar shift between the brown and black. If the colours are properly registered, the monument has three steps running full width and five steps on either side of the central tower. A progressive registration shift of more than 3 mm eliminates some or all steps creating the illusion of "The Sinking War Memorial". Similarly, there is a lateral shift of more than 2 mm shown in the last row of the exhibit. GJP
These are commonly referred to as a vignette shift. It's a fairly common occurrence in stamp collecting. A good example is on the US airmail stamps C1-C6. Some will refer to them as high flyer's if the center vignette has shifted upwards from center, Fast flyer if it shifted to the left of center. Some issues took on a specific slang to describe the partial shift of the design. I recently picked one up because it just looked cool.
Here's the 72 cent Battleford Post Office (June 1987) Scott # 1125 with an extreme purple colour shift to the left. The purple outlines all drawn items in the stamp. I have a vertical strip of 10.
