Aden, Quaiti State of Hadhramaut, overprinted South Arabia and with new values, set of eleven stamps.

These are not listed in Scott's under Aden, South Arabia, Yemen or DPR of Yemen.

What are these? How did they come about?

Provisional issues of 1Apr1966. They are not listed in Scott.

The overprints were made on 12 stamps, so you are missing one stamp.

Sorry, I don't know the history behind the overprints.

Looks like you are missing the 10 shilling stamp.

I should clarify -- they are no longer mentioned in Scott. They used to be listed in Scott's "For the Record" section, which Scott discontinued in the late 1980s or early 1990s (I don't remember exactly when).

I think these are Aden issue of 1963 (SC#41-52) with portrait of Sultan Awadh Bin Saleh El Qu'aiti, which are listed but not pictured under Aden.
Sorry but I don't see the overprints listed either. Not sure if that is much help.

edit - My 1983 Stanley Gibbons does have a notation,
"The stamps of the Aden States surcharged in fils and dinars and with the word Aden obliterated and replaced by 'South Arabia' (or commemorative inscription also) are listed under the Aden States"

These are listed under 'new currency' in 1966 (SG#53-64)

It's easier to pilfer a listing these days -- here is a link so you can see the 500 fils on 10 shilling stamp.

The overprints on the Seiyun stamps can also be found at their site.

It turns out there is an old thread on SCF on these overprints, but I missed it so I didn't reply.

Even though Scott no longer has the "For the Record" section, much of that information (actually sometimes more) can be found on the web.

Here is a decent link to a listing of Yemen. Click on the 1966 links in subsections under the section "Federation of South Arabia and States", and you will see a listing of these various overprints for the various states.

Wonderful links khj! Thank you.

Having the information available lets you think you could collect an area or state or country. the unknown is daunting sometimes.

These are still listed in Gibbons, under South Arabian Federation, SG 53-63. The set of 12, including the 500 fils on 10/-, is priced at £32. However, the missing 500 fils is priced at £26; most of the rest are 10p each, although the 100 fils is £4.
