This section of the forum seems overly negative so I thought I'd try to swing the balance a little by posting a positive ebay experience I recently had and asking others to share theirs as well.

On July 22 I won/paid for an auction lot from ebay seller goldflowers600. The lot was mailed to me on July 23rd. On July 30 the seller emailed to ask if I had recieved the lot -- I hadn't and told him so. His next email indicated that if I didn't receive the lot by August 6th he would "make it right."

On Aug 6th I told him that I still hadn't received the item but to not worry about refunding my money. He replied that same day by apologizing for my not having received the lot and informing me that he was sending me a comparable set to the one I had purchased. The replacement items arrived, insured, on August 11th and were of the same condition as the set I had won.

Yesterday, August 16th, the envelope that had been mailed on July 23rd appeared in my mailbox, having taken 25 days to make a 2- to 3-day journey from Wisconsin to Virginia. There were absolutely no postal markings on the envelope and thus no possible explanation for the delay. Today, the original package is making its way back to the seller (with delivery confirmation to help keep it from getting lost).

I wonder how many ebay sellers, when told that the buyer was willing to absorb the cost of a lost item, would have gone to the trouble and expense that goldflowers600 did. He made my Favorite Sellers list!

THe experience you have with anyone, ebay seller or not, is determined by the character of the person. You are either a good guy or----

I think ebay is like anywhere else. You'll find good apples and bad. As rohumpy says, it's determined by ones character (well put by the way).
I've had some good experiences with sellers. Sending better quality stamps than they showed on the listing, or sending nice extras along, which is always a nice surprise.
We poopoo ebay sometimes, but let's face it, something that ginormous, it's not going to run smoothly all the time. *!@# happens.

Good communication and a bit of politeness can make a big difference when it comes to trading on ebay. It's human nature that the one in a hundred rude individual will rankle with us whilst we forget the ninty nine positive experiences.
Thanks for the post... timely to be reminded that there is still some good in this world.

From time to time I have bought quite a few things from ebay and had all positive experiences except once. So 99% of the time I have run into honest folks and they earn that top seller rating from not only the amount they sell but the feedback left by the people who bought from them. Always leave feedback.

I have not tried ebay mainly because I have not bothered to set up a Paypal account. Will have to some day. Thanks for the encouraging words.
Have come up with 2 ways to identify rude people. PITA stands for Pain In The you know where and CUSStomer is for those who take out their frustrations on the poor cashier. By the way, too many younger people think WORK is a 4 letter word!! I sent these to Reader's Digest hoping for some cash, but no response.
