You have to go through PSE to get PSE graded certificates. They aren't cheap (my opinion), but hey, whatever people want and are willing to pay...

Ok here is my reason , today I sold one of three of my race boats Teflon #02 , so I decided to to attend actual auctions and exhibitions and trade shows as my two sons continue to race I plan to buy more stamps for our collections ,they want the fleas that I have but I would perfer them to have certificates. |

The great majority of the the professional experts do it for a living. They won't hang around the "little folk", and won't spend time answering questions for free unless they think their business/knowledge can benefit from it. If they do answer questions for free, it is almost always at very specific Forums/Shows/Gatherings. You really have to be part of the "in" crowd. That is a shame, because they are the ones who could really promote this hobby among new/young collectors. But I can understand, if it's your livelihood, you have to make the business profitable.
Bill Weiss is one of the few professional experts that will pop in here and there, and he is a LOT friendlier than most. But he doesn't hang around here.
I am not aware of any regular members here on SCF who are currently on any professional expertizing committees -- but then again, I don't know everyone here.
But as long as I have been here, nobody has claimed to be an "expert" that I can recall. I do agree that there are a few here who are exceptionally knowledgeable in specific areas (I would consider them "specialists" and wouldn't hesitate to introduce them as experts), and I would readily go to them for an non-professional opinion before I went to a professional expert.
When you sell your stamps privately, for exceptionally valuable items customers will want a piece of paper (certificate) from a accepted professional expert. The word/opinion of your "specialist" buddies just won't do for most buyers. |

T5-
Since you've asked...
The rarities will be there, waiting for you. I'd be inclined to spend lots of time with stamps, getting very comfortable for yourself with judging condition. You can leave the certificates for the truly tricky ones.
There was a quote attributed to Robson Lowe that I've quoted before, to the effect of, if you need to rely on a certificate when buying something, you should be collecting something else. Easy for him to say, as he was one of the great experts, but it is an interesting observation for discussion purposes.

Every piece of information is very essential for the buyer and the seller , as the advice given is to help both parties to appreciate the reward of the hobby of King and Queens alike . as for the not so important items a certificates not required ,on the other hand high end material demands certificates for certain auctions seem to require a certificate this does not apply for all ,so the advice given is well taken. Thank U |
