Could anyone recommend a smoke-free kiloware dealer in the US? Everything I bought so far has a pretty strong smoke stench that I can't get rid of, so all the stamps sit in the envelopes they came in and several new albums I purchased are still empty...
Also, if you know where to find a dealer of Disney stamps (smoke-free, of course), I'd really appreciate a tip. Thanks!

I agree that cigarette smoke stinks. Could not imagine marrying a smoker. Kissing would be awful!! Specify what you collect so we can suggest dealers who can help. I only buy on paper mixtures, but Scott Virtes Stamps also sells some older off paper. |

Cologoque, Keeping the stamps in the envelopes that they came in is not helping to dissipate the smell. Have you tried soaking the stamps in water to remove the odor? If not, you might want to try that on a small sampling and see if the difference is notable. A drop of mild dishwashing detergent in the water bath may also help. Several other options are described here: https://goscf.com/t/11007#11007Good luck, Steve |

Might try searching on forum. I had posted something similar a while back and got these helpful comments. https://goscf.com/t/16746&SearchTerms=smoke I actually have yet to soak, but by separating the pages from the album cover and elevating them on screen in box with both baking powder and charcoal most of the YUCK has dissipated enough I can actually think about handling them. |

I suggest airing them out... spread out the pages in a drafty area.. then just remove the stamps. the odor will go away..
I could never understand smoking around stamps... |

As a reformed smoker, I can only feel pity for those who still smoke. I got a lot of India stamps on pages which smelled like an ashtray. I layed them out on my balcony to air out and it still didn't help. I had to soak them. I guess all those years they were stuck between pages made the smell worse. I soaked them in lukewarm water with a few drops of citrus detergent. After drying and pressing, they smell and look much nicer! Sometimes, soaking is the only option. Has anyone had "Smoked Stamps" that soaking didn't help? |

Try airing them out before going to the trouble of washing them. Get them off the smoked pages, out of smoked envelopes, out of smoked binders etc. Lay just the stamps out for a good airing - fresh air does wonders.
