I was still indexing my military covers and noticed an interesting feature about this one.
It is a registered British stationery cover and addressed to a person who may well have been part of the personnel on board or connected to H.M.C.S. "Bytown". The NPO # 317 is used as a receiver here. It was assigned to H.M.C.S. "Bytown from April 16, 1943 to Mar. 31, 1946. Note! This cancellation is very late usage being only 6 days from being discontinued from use.
The British civilian cancellation is a little feint but I think it is Church Street B.O - Essex, Harwich. I think that the "B.O." here could mean "Base Office"?
There was also a statement posted on the glassine I bought the cover in by the dealer stating: "As Transit B/S on Reg. cover to RCN W/T Station, Presscott Highway c/o HMCS Bytown.
Then he continues on with the question: Isn't this the secret signals intelligence "Listening" station set up to track German signals and later Russian?
I am not sure on this either. Maybe someone in the SCF forum can help?
