So I have this old antique chest that I keep most of my better stamps in, As the older collections that I have bought some of them have that old musty stink to them also some came from a smoking house, So I took some of them out of the chest and had a great Ideal a week ago. I made a cedar box to house some of the real stinky stamps on the bottom of the box I sprinkled a layer of baking soda. Then placed a screen that fits snugly in the box acting like a shelf and so on a total of 6 shelves, I had also drilled a few holes on the sides of the box. Well if you have cats you realise they like to do there business in a box and most cat litters use baking soda as a odour killer.
I had the box in one of the guest rooms I don't go in there to often, So tonight I happen to go in the room As I walked in I could smell cat pee and I started to look around my nose took me to the cedar box. the lid was knocked off the bos and the cats has done there business in the box, So anyone got any ideal of how to get rid of the stains only a few are really salvageable. I'd show you photos but a cat turd covered in stamps not to pretty. I just lost over 4 grand of stamps, I do have insurance but will have to pay the 500 detectable, Going to be fun dealing with the insurance company, but I have all the receipts of my purchases. If any of you think I a hot head you shoud have been in that room. 3.30 in the moring what a nice surprise. The wife asked whats wrong and when I showed her she couldnt help but laugh, That did not help matters, but after I cooled down I had a good laugh myself So about half my collection is gone. Lesson be careful about were you put your stamps if you have cats.
And I thought silverfish was a problem. There out side in the box all wraped in a garbage bag till the insurance adjuster comes out.
