reminds me of the Netherlands 2.5 cent stamp
it has 2 1/2 throughout the background design.

I guess you have an 1871 fiscal, used 16 years later
25th february.

Any opinion on this 2 pence Queensland. S is broken and the L and A are joined.

You have a SG "Type 12"
this is identified by the backfround lines
meeting the oval line.
In the Type 11 they do not quite meet.
Perhaps we shall dig up a copy of the Type 11 for illustration.

Type 12 are from new printing plates
groups of 4 electrotypes.

Number 2 in each group of electrotypes has the "L" and "A"
of Queensland joined at the foot...Yours

(number three of each group has "P" of Pence with a long downstroke.)

The 2d is known bisected and used as 1d

then you have an SG180
the constant flaw joined L and A
does not attract a special variety number

Do not worry about the Queen's head flaw,
I expect it to be a white spot similar but smaller
than the cracked plate image.

Yours is not of this type. CV 30p :)

For the record: There are 12 types of the 2d

I had a gentleman from Canada tell me that his Grandfather came from Longreach.

As bonus stamps I gave him the stamp above with a Longreach cancel which also carried 592.

Also gave a buyer in Rockhamton a Rockhampton and a 514 cancel

Also gave a buyer from Roma one of these stamps with a Roma cancel. Can not remember the number.

I had totally forgotten about doing any of this until I read your a possible Rockhampton description.

I may remind readers here, I am only learning Queensland
and I may make mistakes.

Like this supposedly SG206 looks like SG203 to me
(ie vermilion v red orange)
I wonder what other readers think?
(ps nice example of bust penetrating oval variety)

esp with Queensland, that stamp is not "sad", it's bonzer.

All stamps do not need to be Mint unhinged and pristine,

Steeeep learning curve mate. I still need to learn spell check
I couldn't tell so re-scanned the second stamp, it might be the very thing you warned me about, how the cancels can effect what we see ;)
I don't think it is one but I'm still not sure. Best I can get out of the old scanner. & no auto correct used.
