I was wondering if the German Michel Catalogue also lists the revenue stamps? I have been thinking about buying an older copy. Thank You.

Not only does the standard Michel not list revenues, but the English-language edition contains much less content than the German edition. I bought the 2011 Volume 2 Deutschland Spezial (after 1946) and am well-satisfied with it. |

Thanks for the feedback regarding revenues. It's good to know the content is different for the English edition. With the translation capabilities available online it seems the German edition would be viable. |

They also put out a small handbook for English users to help navigate the German-language editions.
If you are looking for German revenues, the Erler catalogues are probably what you'd want, especially if you only need a volume or two to cover your areas of interests. Otherwise, the entire set would be on the more expensive end of things. |

The other item you need, at much lower cost, is an old copy of the German Philatelic Society's "German-English Philatelic Dictionary" (161 pages). Mine is getting well-thumbed. Also search "worterbuch" on ebay, but make sure it's a philatelic and not just a general dictionary. |

As stated above, Erler is what you'd need for German revenues. It's also in German and English, so you wouldn't need a translator.
If you need a source for one, let me know and I'll post some links. |

I saw a publication with this title: "Catalogue of the Adhesive Revenues of Old German States, by Erler-Norton". Is this the Erler item that you mentioned? |

Yes, that's Vol. 3 of 18. The second half of the German States are in Vol. 4 Old German States to 1945: Lippe to Wurttemberg. |

Erler's Germany series consists of 18 volumes. He also published a couple Germany-related volumes that aren't listed as part of the 18-volume series, (ex. The Stamps of the NSDAP [Nazi Party] and its Sub-Organizations, 1995).
Vol. I Deutsches Reich, 4th edition, 1998. Vol. II German Colonies & Overseas Steamship Lines, 5th edition, 1998. Vol. III German States: Anhalt to Kurhessen, 2nd edition, 1991. Vol. IV German States: Lippe to Wurttemberg, 2nd edition, 1992. Vol. V Danzig, Memel, Oberschlesien, 1995. Vol. VI Saargebiet, 1981. Vol. VII Court Fee Stamps after 1945 (1946-1973), 1981. Vol. VIII German Occupation Issues 1914-1919 / 1938-1945 & Allied Occupation Issues 1947-1951, 2nd edition, 1996. Vol. IX Fee Stamps of Bavaria Issue of 1957, 1982. Vol. X General Municipal Fee Stamps, 2nd edition, 2000. Vol. XI Berlin, 1st edition, 1990. Vol. XII SBZ/DDR, 1993. Vol. XIII Municipal Revenue Stamps of the Saargebiet, 1992. Vol. XIV Social Security Stamps: LVA Provincial Issues, 1994 Vol. XV Social Security Stamps: Issues from 1.1.1923 On, 1994. Vol. XVI Social Security Stamps: Saargebeit. Vol. XVII Freight Stamps, Newspaper Parcel Stamps, Seat Reservation Stamps, Tax Substitute Stamps, 1999. Vol. XVIII Municipal Fee Stamps, 1999. |

I purchased the Michel simplified Germany and Middle Europe catalogues (in German) on a recent trip to Austria. They are great catalogues. I can read a little German and, with the help of a dictionary, I can manage with them quite well. Probably will wish I had bought the German specialized two-volume set but had limited space to bring stuff back. |
