Evening all,
Does anyone know of any of the issues in the 1928-32 Germany "Hindenburg & Ebert" set that had more than one printing, producing differing shades and also noticeable differences in the lines & shading of the images? Have just finished sorting a few of these and have found differences in the 3,6,10,12,15,25,30 & 40 pf values.
I only have my SG Germany 8th Edition to go by, which came out in 2007, and there is no mention there. No luck finding anything on the net either. Thanks in advance...

Not that I will be able to help but scans would probably be helpful...

Yes, realise that but my scanner is kaput. Will try to upload a couple of images tomorrow, just wondering if anyone has any info before I do.

Michel notes that many of those issues can be found in differing shades, though it doesn't catalog the shades separately. There's no mention of differences in lines and shading, though it wouldn't surprise me, as there were both flat plate and rotary printings. Michel does give separate catalog values for flat plate versus rotary.

Yes, flat plate vs rotary will explain it, some are markedly different and without anything in SG I was a bit lost! Thanks PostmasterGS, looks like I need a Michel if I am to expand the German collection thoroughly, not enough info in SG. Were the whole set in both types of printing, or just some of them?

Michel catalogs these as four different sets -- 410-422, 435-437, 454, and 465-466. I believe the only ones not printing using both methods were 435-437, which were rotary only.

Rotary and Flat press printing can be differentiated when comparing stamps with top sheet borders :

At left : Flat press - imperf.top margin
At right : Rotary press - perf. top margin and vertical color bars
