Hello,
recently (a couple of years ago) I acquired through ebay.de a couple of blocks of mint Sachsen (Old German State of Saxony) Mi 15 and 16, supposedly from the Royal Collection of Egypt of King Farouk.
Now, anyone can claim this. My acquisition price was normal for these stamps (5-10% of Michel CV), but if I can prove that they were actually in Farouk's collection, that would be cool.
The blocks have on the margin an inscription stamped 'a. Sammlg. Faruk', translated 'ex collection Farouk'.

My strategy was to buy the auction catalogs of the Farouk auctions, of which there were some in London, New York and Germany. The items would be in there. Anyone has seen these?
Thanks for any help.
Uwe...

I have bought some literature from this British seller in the past - they have one of the Farouk auction catalogues in their current inventory.

Unless you want the Farouk catalogs for other research, or pride of ownership, buying them to document the provenance of these blocks would be a huge waste of money. Every Farouk item I've ever seen had the item rubber-stamped, some like yours, and I'm not aware of any forged rubber stamps. And if these blocks were part of a large lot of common material, you're out of luck, as they are unlikely to be illustrated, putting you back at Square One. Just my opinion.

Thank you for the advice. You are right if one considers the price of the books (more than
$10) vs. the price of the stamps (less than $10 each). But, I can always sell the book(s)
once I'm done and recoup some of the research cost.

My hope was to either find the item(s) themselves, or some documentation of the rubber stamp.
The rubber stamp being in German, I think the German auctioneer would have stamped it, and I
need to concentrate on the German auctions. If someone other than the auctioneer stamped it,
I'm out of luck.

Doing some of this research about one of the greatest collections ever also led me to learn
about the King and his place in history.
