I can't make out the species names, but those spores shure do get around.
Either that or it's two separate species evolving from a more ancient spore.

Phil, what's the genus/species on those?
Would either or both be Coprinus comatus?

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity, Phil.
They are related. They are the very same fungus.
But knowing the way topicals are produced,
are they indigenous to both Australia and Argentina
or did both just like the way they look?

As for the Shaggy Ink Caps or Shaggy Manes, that's
just the common name for this particular species.
Ink caps, genus Coprinus, turn an inky black as
they age and begin to dissolve. I've seen them
around tree stumps in the open, not in woods,
if my old memory for these things is correct.

That's probably more than you wanted to know
about your fungus pair.

I don't eat wild mushrooms, but one of my field guides
says these are edible when young while the gills are
still white.

Gills! Oh my! Almost sounds like we're talking about
fish!
My hubby is an avid mushroom hunter-so is his brother-in-law. Neither
will tell where they find their delectables-must be a big secret where mushrooms grow! ha They do make a nice pot of soup in the late fall after pulling some out of the freezer.

Some kinds of mushrooms thin your blood out--they can be eaten but not
in large quantities--scary!

I agree with modern

I will eat them if a knowlageble person picks them. I myself know know enough not to poison myself

Phil I will my eyes open for additions to your collection. Until then here's a cute joke for you

Why did the mushroom go to the party : Because he's a fungi

Why did he have to leave : Because there wasn't muchroom

Sounds like I could save a few dollars on Coumadin, if I find the right mushrooms, eh?

I learned a few of the good ones from my grandparents and an old timer
we knew. It's not that I wouldn't eat the Shaggy Manes shown on Phil's
stamps, I just never got much out of eating something as tasteless
and nutritionally inert as a fungus. With a rubbery texture, too.

The big danger with mushrooms, it seems, is confusing Meadow Mushrooms,
Agaricus campestris, with the various, deadly species of Amanitas. But
I'm confident enough in telling those apart and used to pick Meadow
Mushrooms (along with a few woodland varieties) for my grandmother
and grandfather. My wife would flip whenever I came across a big puff
ball for her to fry up.

Your secret place is no secret anymore!

I guess the only fungus you might find shipboard
would be the mildew in the showers and the stuff
between your toes!
