Edward VIII (23 June, 1894–28, May 1972; Reign from 20 January 1936 to 11 December 1936)

The four definitive postage stamps issued during between 20 January and 10 December 1936 are shown below. The chosen design was based on artwork by 17-year-old Hubert Brown.

A philatelic design item...

Note that the Imperial Crown is in the corner of the stamp and not over The King's head. This is because he was not coronated. Had he been crowned, the next set of stamps would have shown him with his crown on, or the crown directly above his head.

Protocol, eh?

At least they had enough time to get some stamps out. I often wonder if Britain would of ever fought Germany if he was still King during that time. WWII could have had very different results had he not given up the thrown.
