Hi all

This is one of the very few interesting items I found after my great-aunt died and we cleaned up her stuff (aka: junk).

It appears that her husband, who was into sports, went to Germany for the 1936 Olympics. I found his passport with related rubber stamps in it. I don't think the stamps are worth a fortune, but I am curious what folks here think of it. I wish it hadn't been folded, but something tells me he had to.

2013 Scott Catalouge list the used stamp set $17.60. not on the sheet.
I like the sheet, of course it would be improved by not having the fold.

Hello Nells
Nice to read from you. I just check ebay and a sheet like yours (folded twice) is on auction. It's at about $20 with 3 hres left. I use to have a huge Olympic collection and I had this complete set of 8 stamps issued for the 1936 summer Olympic games in Berlin. I thought of buying this sheet but never did because it's not listed in Scott. I think yours look great except for the stain. It exceptional because it comes from a relative who actually bought it in Berlin during the 1936 summer Olympics! Daniel

Nuts, I just read this... would like to know how much it sold for... let me look and see if I can find it...

OK, I see it sold for $17.50. There was another unsold at $45, and another unsold at $90.

In a way, I'd expect it to have more value, due to the events surrounding the '36 Olympics. But perhaps they just plain sold a lot of stamp items?

Thought I'd scan and share the passport my relative used to get to Germany in 1936.

Thanks for posting pictures of the passport. It's a real piece of history. I like the German Consulate in Boston stamp. Daniel

I have the exact same "Memory Sheet" and I got it in a collection I traded my coins for.

Another person who used to live in town also had a German stockbook specially produced for the 1936 Olympics and the front cover was embossed with the eagle and swasika in gold with olympic ring symbols etc. I would be inclined to think that there were not many of these stockbooks produced and I am not sure how many of these memory sheets were produced either.

After spending many minutes searching, I finally found my copy of this sheet. It's funny how something that large can be hidden so well. My copy has two folds and is not quite as well preserved as Nells250's. I see at the bottom right corner of the sheet that it originally sold for 2 R.M.

Thanks for showing the interesting Visa.

Dug up my copy as well. It too has two folds so not as good looking as Nells' copy.

What may be interesting to note that these sheets were only sold at around 15 mostly Olympic venues in 1936. Nells, your copy was sold at the Olympic Stadiumon August 2nd, while mine for example was sold at the Olympia Pressehauptquartier (literally press headquarters) on July 27th.

I didn't find a copy of the sheet, but I did find a Semi-Postal German Olympic stamp on an Olympic themed postcard that was dated during the games. A torn corner hurts the value, but I thought it could add to the discussion.

Great cancel for sure.

It is quite possible to do a complete study of all the fancy and slogan cancels of the Third Reich. There are tons of them.
