Hi all

Last weekend I attended a stamp show in Owen Sound, Ontario which is on the Georgian Bay to those of you who do not know tha area. While I was there, I bought this cover commemorating the "Re-Union of the "Burma Star" squadrons of the RCAF, which were squadrons #435 and #436.

Granted, the cover is philatelic, but there isn't any other way of procurring this cover otherwise.

The other night I was re-cycling old clippings and came across this particular one in one of the binders. Needless to say, I will be keeping this clipping. The clipping is 30 years old now and this shows the "SPECIMEN" image of the peoposed cover at that time. The first image is the cover I bought and the next 4 are from the clipping.

Bujutsu: congrats on both your find and getting to visit the beautiful city of Owen Sound. I hope you got a chance to see the old Paterson House that adorns one of your recently displayed covers. Sadly, the old Queen's Hotel, where Sir John A. McDonald once stayed, is gone.

I was ferried on a couple of occasions in the C119 Flying Boxcars out of Edmonton as well as with other aircraft types out of Trenton.

I also have about a dozen covers addressed to Canada from an RCAF officer stationed on a British RAF base in India in late 1944 and 1945 that were passed by censors and are adorned with India stamps. The latter part of the war years involving operations in India are not well-known or forgotten but those interested should do a google search using the term "SEAAF".

Thank you Cynical

Interesting that you mentioned the Paterson House hotel. About a couple of years ago, I did get an advert cover from this hotel and mounted it in my album for Canadian Advertising Covers. Unfortunately, we did not have time to see much of Owen Sound itself but made a stop at "Grandma Lambs", out of OS, and also bought a bushel of honey crisp apples. Good scenery going and coming back.

This is the page for the cover.
