Very nice and looks to be before Newport was incorporated in 1889. If I'm reading it correctly the year looks to be 1888 ? If so then it was still while Newport was a township.. Nice cover |

I'm not sure of the date myself. I believe it is December 28th, There is no year. I have not studied it enough to know if it is 158 or 184. It is type A46a. |

I think it is #158. I have three other covers, all to the same address in "East" Minneapolis. One is dated 1876. The other has an enclosure dated 1875, so I am guessing all four are from the same time period which would make it too early for a 184. I know, not very conclusive, but a good guess. I can tell 158's from 184's off cover by the paper. On cover I have problems telling the difference, so go to the date if it is available. |

Either way the value to me is not in the stamp. Either one would be a dollar box item. I go for the cancellation. |

This is my Newport. Not as early as pjsstamps. Here is the message in a more readable format. |

A cover from Northfield. I like the Paris postage due marking. I wonder what is written in red. It is addressed to A. H. Massopust. He was born and raised in New Ulm, MN. He started college at Carlton in 1913. Quote: In June, 1919, Massopust went to Paris as a member of the Inter-Allied Games team to throw the discus. He was the first Carleton alumnus known to have taken part in international competition and is still one of only a handful of Carleton people to have done so. From: http://apps.carleton.edu/alumni/cou...h_massopust/Carlton College is located in Northfield. A poster from the games (from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter-Allied_Games) |

This is why I like to get postcards as postal history. You get to see what was being communicated. Grand Portage,MN - Cook County Father on a fishing trip to the north shore sends his son a postal card. Nobody today would say they were at an "Indian Store". |

I have Zumbro Falls. Haven't finished going through all the covers yet. If I am still missing it when I am doing cataloging, I will send you a note. |
