The abbreviations indicate variants in the iridescent micro printing of ROYAL MAIL in the background behind the royal visage.

As already mentioned, the MBIL etc are printed on the stamp background and indicate the source of the stamps, for instance, Booklet (and booklet size), counter sheet, Prestige booklet and others. The date code and source such as M14L MBIL are included.
This one is MA12 MRIL ...

Thank you all for the explanations and illustrations. I went to the adminware site and read up a little on the security features. Now, of course, I have to add the pages for the various security features. Guess I'd better eat well and exercise...I am going to need to live a long time to get to all my collecting interests.
