Hi Renewal and welcome to the forum

When it comes to Russia, I have always preferred the earlier issues right up to the 1950s. In fact, I guess the same can be said for the Soviet satelite countries right up to the 50s as well. After that, they are just ho-hum.

and no matter from which country, stamp designs have been getting uglier as the time passes, everywhere.
Soviet Union stamps are at least affordable (well, some of them), mainly because there are not that many people collecting them, so the demand stays low. Could not even imagine what happens when these become popular, with average print runs of one to three million, any unused stamps would disappear off the market in a second.
USSR got lousy with the designs in mid 60's, as did many other countries. Most stamps from Communist countries are basically miniature propaganda posters and have a value of their own, not only as stamps and a part of postal history.
