Today, I decided to attempt to visit the Omani Post Philatelic office in Muscat. The Main Post Office was open but the Philatelic Office wasn't. Unbeknownst to me, they're only open 2 days a week. Unfortunately, my goal of buying or ordering First Day Covers wasn't going to happen. However, in the regular retail section, I bought these gems from 1992. They're actually still using them for postage. Has anyone else actually purchased 20 year old stamps at face value from a postage counter?

I couldn't find a Scott number for them in my 2009 but there is an identical one issued in 1985 (Scott 286). I've seen a single of this stamp on ebay with a buy it now on price for 15 pounds. Could someone with a more recent Scott catalog tell me if there is a Scott number for the '92 issue? Did I actually make money by buying these at face value? The Riyal Exchange rate is 1 RO = $2.65.

The kind postman also gave me this poster of Omani stamps. I think I'll mail it home to the US next week. It will look nice framed and on the wall in my future man-cave I apologize for the glare but I had to use my camera. I'm not at work today.

The latest Michel catalogue "Naher Osten 2013" (40th ed.) finally lists the 1992 stamp as Mi 291 II and the 1985 stamp as Mi 291 I. The Roman script types of the 1985 and the 1992 are slightly different, so the year printed on the margin of the stamp is not the only difference.
