I was in Noumea and Vanuatu last year, very briefly, but did not see any stamp shops. However there was someone selling stamps etc, in a tent just outside the dock gates in Vanuatu. I will be going on a cruise back there in February and also on to Fiji. I hope to collect more stamps and coins. When are you going on your cruise?

I am sure someone told me they have a philatelic counter in the Port Vila main post office.

They have a decent website: http://www.vanuatupost.vu/services.html

By the way, Noumea is in New Caledonia. Port Vila is the capital of Vanuatu.

For something completely different that no one else has in their collection how about mailing letters underwater. Or getting cancelled mail underwater. They have the world only underwater post office.

Check out their link here.

When I hear or see New Caledonia I think about my Uncle Johnny my fathers brother...a man of few interests of friends...one of the highlights of his life must have been when he was a sergeant on New Caledonia during the war !

I think I remember there being a philatelic counter in the Port Vila post office. Haven't been to the post office in Noumea, but it's a western style city so I'd say they would have such a counter as well.

Hi Triggersmob

I will be leaving from Sydney on the 25th of November and the Cruise is for ten days.
I have been to Vanuatu once before, but have been to Noumea quite a number of times, but I never thought of looking for stamps then.
I was hoping that there was a philatelist, as being so close to Australia, I was hoping to find some early Australian issues tucked away and forgotten type thing.
Regards
Horamakhet
