This was one of those I like em so I bought em deals. I am just embarking into WW areas but I put a really low bid and won.
I believe these are all on prelure or some simular really thin paper. Any additional comments or info greatly appreciated as I have no idea the uses for these. The more I look at Revenues from almost any country they seem to be nicer than the majority of regular issued postage.

Thanks for showing, nitrolures. I like the Austrian revenues very much, although I only have a couple myself, and those are mostly damaged. On one of the, the 36 kr from 1883, I have an impressive cancellation with a large double eagle in the centre from the court in Leopoldstadt. I'll add a scan when I get time.

As much as I fully understand the importance and possible great values in cancelations I likely won't understand foreign languages enough to grasp properly- well at least not until I hit a decade of collecting. However specialty and bold cancels like you mention would obviously find a special home.

I just started an Austrian collection after visiting the Country last fall. Love the stamps although some collectors seem to dis them! Not sure why. Yes, they are not expensive and I suppose could be called common; but the engaving on many issues is amazingly good and they look great. I haven't got to the revenues yet but I envy your little hoard.

Not sure why but Austria seems to becon . As I sell off more and more WW duplicates I seem to be holding back on Austria and a few others . Even the early classics are attainable although I am sure there are some out of reach ones somewhere in the mix.

For me, Austrian stamps in general from the middle period were simply some of the best examples of the engravers art seen on any stamps.
There are also not so many issues and most are reasonable priced.

As well as the fine engraving, I'm also intrigued by the complexity of the stamps from the empire period, especially the World War I issues. Not sure I really understand them very well yet but will be working on it over the next few months. Am buying as much of this stuff as I can find and afford. When I was in Austria last fall, I purchased a Michel catalogue covering the middle European countries which includes Austria and Czechoslovakia. Struggling a bit with the German but they are very good catalogues. Also found good street front dealers in both Salzburg and Vienna.

Michel has a small handbook for English users of their catalogues that you might find helpful.

Thank you Cjd; I will look for that; it would probably help a lot. I studied German for a couple of years at university (many years ago) and could read it quite well then, but have forgotten most of it. Many of the philatelic terms don't show up in the standard dictionaries. The online translation s/w helps a bit but is awkward to use.

I'm not sure I've ever seen most of those. Very nice, thanks for sharing them.
