I recently bought 8 oz of US definitive kiloware ... it was a nice selection (other than the prepondernace of one stamp) and I like the vendor, but this particular bag held 2 1/2 oz out of 8, ~31%, of one stamp ... that ubiquitous Liberty Bell stamp. Is that too much or is that about what I should expect?

In order to answer your question as to whether or not the number of duplicate stamps is above normal, one would have to look at the wording of the original ad.

Assuming you're referring to the "Forever" Liberty Bell Stamps, there are a remarkable number of subtle varieties one can collect in this series. Here's a link that can help you identify the various ones. It's a sub-collection all in itself and some collectors would be grateful to have such a quantity of Liberty Bell stamps to go through in order to search out some of these varieties:

to be honest I had not looked at the catalog of the stamp ... just finished sorting an hour or so ago. I probably have 1000 of them so I look forward to sifting through them. I'm not really that upset about it ... it just seemed like an extraordinary amount of one stamp.

edited to add ... the link is amazing! thanks!

I know I am sorting recent Australia but I know for sure that my source is 110% untouched from a charity and it always seems to break down the same way even though the stamps change dramatically every 6 month. As I like to sort in 6 month intervals to be well stocked in all recent letter rate sets.

The kiloware that is wild harvest comes 50% comms 50% defins from the charity.

Out of that 25% are keepers for soaking. 25% would be 2 or 3 singles and Christmas issue comms. 50% would be defins that make up about 12 stamps and those 12 stamps come in coils, gummed and self adhesives. All discernible by the perforation type, style, difference.

So I would have Australia kiloware definitives that spreads over 10 years that would have about 35 stamps with 105 perforation differences and there is always 1 stamp that dominates. I believe that Australia Post will over supply to Post Offices one definitive stamp about every 5 years.

I have found that 50% comms 50% defins is the best and cheapest way to get your stamps.
100% comms have always been picked through. Even if it comes from a charity as they like the best to take off paper.

To buy just defin mixes is really the left overs of the stamps on paper process and has very little true value.

I do not think it would be that much different in other countries but I would love to be corrected.

Hope this has been helpful.
