Here are images of the four stamps in a set depicting details from a set of three paintings entitled "The Battle of San Romano," by Italian artist Paolo Uccello (1397-1475), designed by Egidio Vangelli, combined engraved by Alceo Quieti and photogravure, and issued by San Marino on June 14, 1968, Scott Nos. 688-91.

Two covers I have with horse postmarks. (One would be a curio, two is a collection!)

The first, Swiss, marking the Geneva International Horse Show, November 1957.



The second, 1967, from the city of Horsens, in Jutland, on the East coast of Denmark. Horsens is from the old Danish meaning "horse headland". The city has a horse on its coat of arms.

Here are images of the five semi-postal (charity) stamps in a set depicting horses, designed by Austrian artist Karl Bauer (1905-1993), engraved by Ferdinand Lorber, and issued by Austria on October 20, 1946 to publicize the Austria Prize Race, Scott Nos. B179-B183.

Velká pardubická is a famous steeplechase cross-country run in Pardubice, Bohemia (now Czech Republic) since 1874. Here are images of the six stamps in set designed by Czech painter and graphic artist Radomír Kolár (1924–1993), printed by combined engraved and photogravure, and issued by Czechoslovakia on October 28, 1978 to publicize the Pardubice steeplechase, Scott Nos. 2202-07.

I like the use of the simple splashes of colour on those last stamps.

stampgal - Agreed! Also, I feel that Radomír Kolár's designs for these stamps capture the excitement of horse racing rather well. I'm looking forward to my next visit to the track.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting Dülmen wild ponies in Merfelder Bruch Nature Reserve, printed by photogravure, and issued by Germany on May 5, 1987 to publicize European Environmental Conservation Year, Scott No. 1512. Note: The Dülmen is the only surviving native pony breed in Germany.

Scott USA 1478 issued 22 June 1973

Manuel Xavier Rodríguez Erdoíza (1785-1818) was a Chilean lawyer and guerrilla leader, considered one of the founders of independent Chile. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the equestrian statue atop the monument to Colonel Rodríguez displayed in Bustamante Park, Santiago, printed by lithography, and issued by Chile on November 24, 1969 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Rodríguez's death, Scott No. 378, plus a photo of the monument.

Classic chariot race, printed by lithography (E.A. Wright Bank Note Co., Philadelphia), and issued by Liberia on November 15, 1956 as the high value in a set of four stamps commemorating the 16th Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia, Scott No. 361.

The Kladruber, a heavy type of carriage horse, is the oldest Czech horse breed and one of the world's oldest horse breeds (bred for over 400 years). Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Kladruber stallion Generalissimus XXVII, designed by Czech artist Emil Kotrba (1912-1983), combined engraved by Milos Ondrácek and photogravure, and issued by Czechoslovakia on August 28, 1976, Scott No. 2079, plus a photo of a team of Kladruby in harness.
