I saw this on yahoo news on "11 things to hoard now" along with incandescent bulbs and coffee this was listed:

Stamp Collections

What's bad news for the U.S. Postal Service is good news for serious stamp collectors. If the USPS--which lost $15.9 billion in fiscal 2012 and is on the verge of bankruptcy--goes out of business, the value of old, rare collections could rise.

I dunno if this would happen what do you guys think?????

The value of old, RARE collections are almost always rising. That's pretty much a given.

The problem is -- 99.999% own run-of-the-mill stamp collections dominated by common or modest premium stamps.

Guess which collectors are in the 99.999% group?

"Real assets" may hold their value in hyper-inflation, but I would rather go with the precious metals, preferably "junk silver" coins, i.e., pre-1965 dimes and quarters, which are a convenient size for everyday commerce and bartering, and easy to hide.

Having said that, I am cleaning out unwanted stamps and covers, selling them as best I can, and putting the money into more liquid assets, but not cash.

This story is silly and can't be taken seriously. I looked it up since you didn't link it http://finance.yahoo.com/news/disap...4049162.html

Agree 100%. It's a stupid obnoxious ill-conceived gee-whiz article. I'll save you the trouble of reading it -- here's the items to hoard:

incandescent light bulbs, 30-pin iPhone chargers, motion picture film, Newsweek magazines, Suzuki automobile parts, Yves St. Laurent fashions, Ralph Lauren Rugby fashions, burgundy wine, municipal bonds, Arabica coffee, and of course, stamp collections.

A good example of why Yahoo is going down the toilet.

I've been hoarding for years now. I can't hoard anymore until I get rid of some the old hoards.

I like the idea of buying regular light bulbs... I hate the squiggle ones... and they are actually worse for the environment (mercury inside... not like the blue one above)
