Stamp Insider for January–February 2013The January–February issue of the
Stamp Insider, journal of the Federation of New York Philatelic Societies, is online and
available for free download in PDF format or viewing online with Flash page turning.
There are two major articles in this issue: The cover story is "Philately on the Bounty" which was prompted by the sinking of the replica of the ship that sank off the North Carolina coast during hurricane Sandy in late October. Stamps commemorating to the infamous 1789 mutiny and Hollywood adaptations of the event illustrate Steve Swain's narrative. The story of the US parcel post and parcel post due stamps (Scott. No. Q1–Q12 and JQ1–JQ5) is related by Norman A. Cohen, who specializes in these issues. The parcel post turns 100 on January 1, 2013. The illustrations include a first day wrapper serviced by the legendary Henry Hammelman.
