I finally forced myself to go through and catalog my many Latin American air mail stamps. To tell you the truth I had viewed them as common, low value and serious drudgery to catalog because there were so many. But taking the time to look at each stamp to catalog it revealed colorful sets, wonderful engraving, overprints, interesting history AND highly affordable items for the great majority of stamps. I have a new motivation and appreciation for these stamps. I made a list of "got to have it" stamps that are well within my budget.
I agree, there are some beauties in the classic era among Latin American airmails. I wouldn't try to pick favorites, but Dominican Republic and Mexico have some particularly nice examples.
Now we are on to something..the folks of Central America are not noted for writing letters to one another so most of the stamps are for external use..therefore airmails..of course I am partial to Guatemala !
