Took a shot pretty much blind in a auction. It was listed as 1939 World's Fair complete album so threw out $50 dollars. Won it and was very surprised at the album that I received. Didn't get the Portugal overprints but made up for it many times with the rest of the collection.

Interesting topic.

While I do not collect stamp pertaining to the 1939 NYWF, I do collect covers and postcards from that event.

Nice thread.

Wow. Beautiful.

I have never seen an album with so many angles, arcs, and stair-step layouts!

I was rather interested in the copyright notation on these album pages that states "Maco Philatelic Service". The company was, in fact, known as Maco Philatelic Corporation and back in the 1930s did a lot of advertising in the classified sections of several magazines for various philatelic offerings. In fact, I believe they also had a Maco Cover Service, where some limited first day of issue cacheted covers were produced. I can't find too much else about them after 1950, so my guess is the company eventually dissolved.

Given the type of ads I have seen for them, I suspect they were run on the general principles of the Postal Commemorative Society or the Reader's Digest Cover Club, etc., as a means by which to market their collectibles through classified ads in various magazines and hobby publications.

Great find!

I saw a set of the Portuguese colonial World's Fair overprints in an auction catalog sometime last year. Unfortunately, can't remember where.

If you decide to seek them out in order to complete your Worlds Fair/Constitution album, bear in mind that forgeries exist of some, if not all, of the eight values. I recommend getting certificates of authenticity.

They can be hard to find; I have 4 of the 8, plus an extra Cape Verde.
