University Post Office Refuses To Handcancel Stamps

That post office in Georgia Institute of Technology was manned by University staff, probably they must have been mis-informed on the usage of the postmark to the extent that they say it is not allowed to cancel stamps. Should we show them the postal manual part which deals with collectors' cancellations?

I had same thing here in Canada (shoppers Drug Mart as James mentioned) She would not cancel then hand back to me but stated the item had to go through the system once it was canceled. I wanted to argue that I'm sure Canada Post would not mind cancelling any postage but left the item . My thought was if I bought 10 whale stamps at $100 plus tax and said cancel them , why would they care wether it was put on a parcel or not? My luck they'd give me a nice hand cancel and then some yoyo would marker monkey the whole thing.

I purchased my Canadian Whales in Thunder Bay and they Hand cancelled them for me with the nice Fort William cancel, handed them back to me and then thanked me for the purchase :)
