The article states it's "cold" ... but doesn't mention the temperature. Just how cold is/was it?

I've been in Winnipeg on those Balmy "65-degree F below zero days" -- and I think that was with wind chill. I still remember all the electric cords hanging out of the car hoods. I remember one mid-day walk from my friend's car to a restaurant; I felt like my lungs were being ripped-out during the walk from the parking lot -- and that was with my face covered! I still don't know how you guys do it up there.

There use to be a great collector of Japanese postal history who taught at the University of Winnipeg. We had many a great diner and conversation. His name was Dr. Felix Bertalanfy.

Edited to with "F" for Fahrenheit

Yesterday it was minus 35c and windchill of -47, That be I think -31 Fahrenheit.
I took a walk to the mail box yesterday which is just across the street, No hat just wearing my PJ's bottoms t-shirt and a down filled parka. I thought I was going to die on the way back. I heard that the city workers in Winnipeg are only allowed to be out for 20 min max at a time then have a warm up break.

I just noticed the above posted article shows tomorrow's weather forecast as -27C. For all of the US readers here, that's roughly -16.6F.

I wonder ... just how cold does it have to be before a Canadian puts on his hat and gloves?

Having lived on the East Coast of Great Britain for many years I well remember those -30 F wind chills coming directly across the sea from Siberia. Brrrrrrrrrr.....no more no thanks. But I never remember the post man not delivering the mail.....it always came whatever the weather.

I'm currently living near Auckland New Zealand where it never snows (greatly appreciated), and today its a beautiful sunny day and about 26 C - slightly humid but I'd rather have that than a frost.

The current temp here is +10F and I think its cold.

A Canadian thinks +10F is summer. I'm just glad the Flyers are back on the ice... even though they lost the first two. Too bad they were on strike forever. You guys in Ottawa... isn't "Winter Luge" in a week or two? The Bed Races on the river were fantastic -- and the funniest. You Canadians really know how to party.

Hi irishjack

I once worked for a software company that created type-setting programs. The "Winnipeg Free Press" bought a system. The company decided that I should go to Winnipeg since I am from Maine and used to cold weather. Maine is cold but Winnipeg is COLD. I went in January and it snowed every single day. The person that I went with refused to go back after the first stint so I spent the Winter traveling New York to Winnipeg. I came to really like Winnipeg.

The funniest thing was at first I thought that the motel was cheap since they had "parking meters" in the parking lot. I did finally realize they were for plugging in engine block heaters. In Maine we just wrapped the engine in an old blanket for the night.

Just reminiscing.

I have a command start for the cars, start the car remote control from the house, Also have a heater inside the car that I plug in to the outlet, Its a way of life here we live for 4 weeks of Summer.
I surprised there aren't more stamp collectors after all we couped up in the house.
But we Canadians still go out and play in the cold, even in this cold weather the kids are playing ice hockey in homemade rinks in the backyard.
As we say here you know its cold when the teenagers are wearing coats to school

I'm as far south as Canada gets and its been colder here last few days then past 3 years. I used to love this and go ice fishing but just walking the dog 5 minutes and I'm feelin it to the bone. Much rather stay warm with the stamps then sit on a bucket hopin for an equally frozen fish to bite. Seen Calgary forecast and it was above freezing there which is extremely odd so maybe some warmth will be moving east.
