This is an airmail stamp from Lithuania. It has an overprint in black on the righthand side, which I can't read properly. It seems to say something like 'ZENKERS.' Does anyone know what this is?
This stamp is from a set issued issued in July 1922. The set was originally intended to be issued to commemorate the establishment of the founding of the air post service in Lithuania.
The word underneath the overprint is "Isteigimas" which means 'founding'. Since a set had already been issued in November 1921 for the event, this set was overprinted "Zenklas" which means 'value'.
You will also notice that vertical lines were added to block out the commemorative date (1921, VI, 25) in the bottom left hand corner of the vignette.
With the overprints, this set then became just an ordinary air post set.
