Definitely something funky happening on those stamps. Second one looks like some blue ink transfered from somewhere, and the first one also has some schmutz on it. For .75¢ I don't know if it's worth your having to pay postage again to return it, but I would definitely complain. If you got them off of ebay, a serious seller should be happy to help you to avoid a bad rating.

Were the two sets shipped facing each other?

Come to think about it..they were facing each other.
Doesn't explain the orange tinge.

I think if you look closely at the man's hair on the 44c stamps, you can see some slight orange.. when the ink from these stamps rubbed onto the 22c stamps, maybe the blue brought out the red to make it look more orange..

or something rather

Coinsearcher83...i put the blocks face together..and sure enough you can see where the ink smudged on the other stamp...i would have thought that the ink was more permanent....and not likely to bleed..
Go figure...thanks for solving this mystery.

No problem.

If it was ebay you could say you were dissatisfied with the shipping methods..
Seller might refund the money.

I had that happen when I purchased MNH stamps, but looked hinged when I received them.

It just reinforces that using a stock card with a tight fitting plastic jacket so no stamp movement can take place while they are in the mailing system is the way to go.

It to me looks like very poor packaging. A very good lesson for everyone!
