This was an interesting looking stamp that I found recently in a collection. Because there was no loss of colour in the post mark, I am fairly sure that it was a case of severe underinking of the plate on this run.

If anyone can confirm this theory or can offer another explanation, I would appreciate their input.

A second question connected to this. In this issue, as in many early issues from a variety of countries, Scott makes note of "excellent forged cancels". Is there anyone who can offer an opinion on the authenticity of this particular cancel?

A little hot water and soap with the stamp sitting in it for a hour or so will give you the same results. Its hard for a cancel to be expertized from a scan ,unless it was mass produced for the stamp trade.
