Sold something in ebay. My first sale.Sent out the invoice on the day a few hours after auction closed. After a few hours checked my sellers page and at the symbol of hour glass states payment was initiated(date) and is being processed through paypal. When I click on view paypal transaction it states at status completed-fund not yet available. At details it says ok to ship and also seller protection not eligible. It has been such for the last 48 hrs.Is this a normal procedure and is it safe for me to ship the item. Am confused.Thought sale on ebay is not so complicated since when I purchase things on ebay within a minute my money is removed from my paypal account but when I sell it seems somehow a little complicated. Am depending on your advise to ship or not to. Thanks for any advise, inputs and opinions.

I would contact Paypal.

This is from Paypal site:

Why is my payment unavailable?

If a buyer pays you and the payment isn’t immediately available, we’ll notify you via email or an alert in your Account Overview page. This email or alert will be the best source of information on why your payment isn’t available and what you may be able to do to help access it faster.

Here are some common situations why a payment you receive might not be immediately available:

You’re involved in a pending PayPal dispute, claim, or ebay Buyer Protection case, or your buyer has filed a chargeback or reversal with their bank.

You have a limited selling history on ebay or a Below Standard seller rating on ebay, or we determine that there’s a higher level of risk associated with your account or transactions. For example, your account has an increase in ebay Buyer Protection cases, PayPal disputes, or claims. Learn more

Your account has been temporarily limited because we’ve noticed an issue with your account and need your help to resolve it.

A reserve has been placed on your account.

We’ve identified a potential issue with a buyer’s payment and are reviewing the transaction. We typically complete these reviews within 24 hours. During this time, the payment won’t be available and we’ll ask that you wait to ship the item to your buyer until we complete our review.

You can log in to your PayPal account any time to view your payment status.

Learn more about payment status and availability.

Remember reading regarding the 21 days payment hold back. They have also stated that the payment willbe released upon me giving a tracking no. Since my auction states that my item will be delivered by economy post and my postage charges are as per economy post charges, how can I provide a tracking no. Bottom line need to know is it safe for me to ship out the item.

You should be OK, once the buyer receives it and leaves feedback you should get your money if not 21 days.
They do this to make sure your not a scammer, this will probably last a few months or quicker if you sell a say 100 items with pos feedback,
When I started selling I had to go through this a bit of a pain.
After I think 6 weeks of selling they would hold the money for 14 days. then lifted all holds once I had 100 pos feedback.
Just the hoops ebay will put you through.

Thanks Irishjack for the info. Not a problem for me to wait for the payment even if it is 30 days. Just wanna be sure am not gonna be taken. By the way could you please tell me what happens if the buyer decides not to give a positive feed back or probably no feed back at all and since the item is on economy post no tracking no will be available. Just looking at worst case scenario. Would be helpfull to know the worst. Thanks.

If you don't get any feedback ( many buyers don't bother) you still get your money, if you get neutral or neg you should still be paid as the buyer received itembut might return for refund.
Worst case is that it goes missing and if you have received the money the buyer might open up a claim and ebay/paypal will reimburse the buyer.
But you should be OK stop thinking of the worst it will end up a self fulfilling prophecy
One thing to keep in mind while selling on ebay is that if you are paid by paypal they can go and withdraw money for a refund, so if your paypal account is linked say with your bank account you could end up in the red and be over drawn. Paypal can be a mean machine. So if you did a few hundred dollars in sales try to keep your paypal account a little flush for 45 days after the auction, A buyer has 45 days to open up a claim.

A tip that might be helpful for you is this. I charge 50 cents over postage costs this goes into a pickle jar after say 300 transaction I will have $150 in the jar if a sale goes south and paypal with holds money for a refund of item taking more then 45 days in the mail ( it can take a few month for mail to reach over seas) I have a little money in the jar to cover loses

I believe it may say that because the buyer has his paypal account coming out of his bank account and not a credit card. And it takes some time for the process to take place. I used to do that once and I believe the payment used to take about 5 days before the buyer got his money into his paypal account. And if that were the case if I were selling I would hold shipping until that cleared.

I have had the same situation myself as a seller. The funds are coming via some means other than PayPal cash so the process is slowed up until payment can be confirmed. Might take a week. I have felt no obligation to ship the won items until you have the payment confirmed by PayPal.

Hi!
While I've only recently returned to the hobby after a 40 year hiatus, I am a seasoned ebay "vet" of 12 years with over 1000 100% positive feedbacks. For those that are looking to start selling on ebay, I strongly urge them to buy first, to get say 100 or so 100% positive feedbacks on record before attempting to sell. This will do a some good things for you. It will get you a positive history for prospective buyers, and it will get you acquainted with the Ebay/PayPal process. And for your "buying spree", well I suggest looking at low dollar stamp auctions, of which there are thousands.

The fact is, many buyers will not patronize newbies or those with less than say 99.5 percent positive feedback. Being established, with 100 percent positive feedback, means everything to the buyer.

IrishJack is giving you the right anwser !! Some of the other comments , not so much.

Without tracking information, which is usually not worth it on stamps, PayPal will hold the funds 21 days. As Jack said , this is time to make sure you are not a scammer. It's really a good policy !

After a number of sucessful transactions they will lift the hold from your account and the funds will be available immediately.

Just part of the initiation process of selling on ebay.

Have Fun !
